What concepts of programming should I look further into?

For the past 2 years I've been a computer programming major, I love the work I do (on assignments), the assignments are starting to become somewhat repetitive, and I honestly feel (and have felt) like this was the type of work I feel like doing as a full blown career.

The school at where I am at seems to focus more on the teaching of different languages (quantity over quality I would guess), regardless I have already started to realize that all programming languages are very similar (and some even have the exact same syntax!). My question is since I am wanting a job in the business world (originally I wanted a job with a video game company, but I would honestly rather have job stability and a higher paycheck so I think I might do something in database management) and I am getting close to my degree (finally!) what other aspects of programming should I look into.

Some examples of what I am looking for are, UI design, API programming, User Simplicity, ect.

What concepts of programming should I look further into?
Object Oriented Programming

Cluster Infrascruture Programming methodogies

Automative Programming

Heuristic Approaches

Data Analysis

Data Transformation

Artificial Intelligence (Beginning Automation)

Mainly these are concepts and not strict programming. It depends on what exaclty you want to do...
Reply:job stability doesn't exists . . . .I've been in IT for 22 years and you learn to go with the flow . . every job is different and requires different skills . . .continual education is your key to a successful career

my degree is in computer programming but I currently do technical support
Reply:I would focus on internet based languages. Software is moving to the itnernet. I would make sure you know the basics of C, C#, vb but then get into the PHP, MySQL, JAVA and ajax world. I think online UI design will be a growing area. Quantity will help you land jobs in this area though. If you want job security look into Epic Software Systems. They are always looking for young programmers.
