Is Computer Programming a good field to enter?

I'm trying to get out of the health field and looking to enter computers.

Colleges such as UoP, and ITT tech are just too expensive and financial aid won't approve me for the full cost of tuition.

So I'm planning on attending a community college.

Does anybody have any suggestions? Thank you!

Is Computer Programming a good field to enter?
I cant think of a better field to enter in htis day and age because the demand is high and the pay is great.
Reply:UoP and ITT Tech are not as well respected as community colleges. Having said that, an associates degree is not as well respected as a bachleors degree. Maybe you can get your core classes out of the way at a community college (history, statistics, etc.) and take classes at a university? Once you get some job experience under your belt, that will matter more than the degree on your resume.

The pay is good. Sometimes the hours can be a little long (particularly as you approach a deadline), but they tend to compensate you for it. Frankly, there are a few 'sweat shop' places out there were you are not treated well (like in the telemarketing industry), but people usually only work at one of those places until they get enough experience to get a "real job" somewhere else.
Reply:Find a speciality. Don't just do generic programming. Find something that interests you and learn towards that goal. For example if you enjoy maps, go into GIS programming (once you've done some basics of course).

These days you have to stand out and have some kind of specialist instruction.
Reply:You will need a 4-year degree in computer science to make a career out of computer programming.

If you are artistically inclined, you may want to consider a two-year certificate program in web design.
Reply:Yes definelty, programing is a good field or even Networking is a good field too,but I think I would stick with programming ,or another suggestion is going to a computer gaming college where you learn how to make video games.
Reply:Yes, it sounds a better idea than the easiest majors, health is also an important subject to major.
Reply:Hard to say not knowing where you are - but you can combine health care/computer science - there's lots of jobs in the medical field for people who are computer savvy. The best of luck. If you do work/study (if available) that's really helpful.
