Just want to understand how the basic software used to write the first software was developed.

It's the old blacksmith's method. You tie a rock to a stick, and use it to fashion a crude metal hammer. You then use this crude hammer to make a better hammer... and so on.





You use an old crude compiler to make a better one. You then use this better one to make an even better one.

In the beginning, there was the ENIAC (the first computer),which was programmed by punching holes which corresponded to instruction codes into a paper tape.


Clumsy, but it allowed computer engineers (that electric engineers, in the beginning) to develop newer computers, nicer software, and so on

Reply:Software is written in programming languages, which are compiled/interpreted into machine language. Compilers are software, therefore are written in ... programming languages.
