Are there any special steps necessary to make it work?
Is it possible to to connect a Direct TV receiver to a Dish Network satellite and get Direct TV programming?
The answer is maybe, but there are special steps involved such as re-aiming the dish, changing switches, lnbs etc.
There are so many combinations of receivers, dishes and switches and programming packages out there it would be very hard to give you a definite answer without knowing the details of the systems you have.
I have a directv system right now running off of two 'legacy' dish network dishes w/ dish net lnbs and a directv switch. Works great. Your results may vary depending on your hardware and your ability to locate the directv sats in the sky.
