Is programming unique eg if witing an anti-missile system, thereafter keep fingers crossed ?

Is computer programming unique in that for example if you writing an anti-missile system, you thereafter keep your fingers crossed that it will still work ?

This problem has not been solved, and if anything has been exacerbated, by newfangled ideas such as "software engineering" or "requirements engineering".

Only exception would be if the software is tamper-proof.

Murphy's law says that at least one person in your organisation has made a career out of such tampering.
