Yes I do realise that a lot of people can't stand programming.. but this is aimed at all the professional programmers and software engineers out there...
I am a software engineer myself. I use ASP.net with C# and I've been working for about a year... but I'm beginning to lose interest. Did you ever have a similar experience? What did you do do about it?
What is it about programming that interests you?
I am a certified ColdFusion developer and have done web development for the past 11 years. I doubled majored in computer science and math when I was in college. Ever since I was in college, I have always loved challenges. When I heard that a programming class that was so tough and all that, I would love to take those classes. In my professional life, I am the same way too. I love the fact that I had to think/research in order to get things done, especially in the beginning of my career. Because of the research, it keeps my mind active and make me a bit more creative when I have to program something. After a little while, I did many projects that seemed impossible to my other coworkers. And also, my former supervisor used to give me the toughest projects on earth to do.
I don't necessarily lose interest in programming per se; but when I have a solution to a challenge, then the challenge is not a challenge to me anymore. Unless you are working as a consultant, chances are, you will deal with similar issues most of the time. I was working at an HMO previously. I was there for 9 years. At the end of those 9 years, I got a little bored with the similar programming stuff that I got every day. So, I decided to quit my job and started my own consulting firm. Now that I get a chance to talk to many different clients that have different programming needs; it really interests me.
I also love new technologies. I am really excited about AIR (Adobe Integrated Runtime). I love learning new technologies. The new technologies and the challenges keep me going.
Reply:For me its the problem solving and analysis part. The chalange of finding a solosion through analytical thinking. ITS ALWAYS A CHALANGE to improve stuff and solve problems
Reply:I like the challenge of trying to create something new (new to me) %26amp; making it work. Actually....I love it :)
I have times where I get bored with it, so I step away from it a bit %26amp; concentrate on something else. Within a short time, I'm usually back at it %26amp; loving it again.
Creating a new project or redoing a project to condense the code %26amp; finding better ways of doing things always helps too
Reply:I enjoy it because i know relatively few people can program, in comparison to the billions of people who can play music and use the web. Its a very smug satisfaction if im quite honest!!
Reply:Start a new project - one which is harder than anything you've ever done before.
If that doesn't work, start a whole new language.
Reply:The thing that interests me is the fact that computers can do things way faster than humans can, so we just tell them what to do.
Reply:C++ is a different way of thinking for me. So taking this class (i am actually in the class and answering questions because we just finished notes.) So i enjoy taking this class and will be going onto Java next year ^.^
You can't lose interest in this class, it is always fun :]
Reply:The thing I enjoy about programming is that I am in control of the machine and what I want it to do for me.
When it becomes boring, I usually just create a challenge in an area that I am not fluent in and begin working on a piece of code to do it. The harder the challenge, the more enjoyable it is when you get it solved.
