What is a good programming code that I can learn with and use when I get comfortable with?

I'm looking to get into game development but I really want to start with the basics first. What is a good programming style/code/whatever you call it that I can use to learn how to program with, and it will also control some basic functions of external programs?

What is a good programming code that I can learn with and use when I get comfortable with?
Java
Reply:java, because your efforts aren't wasted should you want to deploy on a cell phone, a web page or from your desktop.

After all, the way things are going economically, Microsoft might not support .net as open source code.
Reply:if you want to write games, C++ and Delphi are the way to go. Both are easy enough to learn and just about all games are written in a mid-high level language such as those.
Reply:Java its a good starting point cause it's simple and you're like talking to the PC, everything in full words and pretty straight forward
Reply:...HTML, duh.
Reply:learn the programming language of Turing. only then can u wrk your up to HTML and other advanced languages.
Reply:try to learn first basic HTML, then Java, Visual C++ is also good
Reply:C++
